This is for dogs who come in severely matted and there is no other way but to remove the hair and start over. You may wonder why it costs extra to "just shave" your dog. Depending on the severity, the skin underneath could have unknown issues. Extra time is necessary to ensure we don't cut the skin under the mat. Also, this does take a severe toll on our equipment - especially our clipper blades, which are very expensive to replace.

My name is Barbara and I have been grooming (with a pause or two in between) since 1989. Pets are my passion. I take the time needed to ensure a calm, and stress free grooming experience. My belief is quality not quantity. Promoting health and wellness with your pet throughout the grooming experience is my expertise. Your dog family member will enjoy their brief stay and go home happy, clean, beautiful and feeling great!
Dogs:
Because all dogs are different, our pricing is based on size, breed and level of grooming needed.
There are many variables in pet grooming, such as whether your pet has long or short hair and also if the hair is matted and tangled. Factors which determine the price of a service include amount of scissor work, degree of matting, difficulty of the cut, disposition of the animal, drying time, length of hair and mainly size of pet. We will be happy to quote you a price range over the phone, and we invite your inquiries.
Our full-service dog grooming includes bathing, cleaning of the ears (plucking if necessary), nail trim, blow dry, brush out, sanitary-area clean up, trimming and hair cut. Odoroma Therapy is also available!
For grooming services, please book a minimum of 1-2 weeks in advance. The Barking Basement in Westhampton has a 24-hour cancelation policy and first-time clients may be asked for a deposit to hold their appointment.
All pets must be on a leash or in a carrier. Dogs and cats MUST be up-to-date on their Rabies vaccination. On your first appointment you must bring a copy of Rabies Certificate. We recommend that if your pet has fleas, that you contact your veterinarian before scheduling an appointment.
*Our rates are subject to change without notice.*
Do you groom cats?
No, I do not offer full grooming on cats. However, I do offer nail trimming for cats.
Do you have a lot of dogs there all at the same time?
No, I work individually with only one family of pets at a time. On occasion, your pet will see another dog if my schedule is tight (due to demand), but it will be in passing. This means one is either coming in as yours are leaving or they are leaving as you are coming in.
Do you use tranquilizers?
Never. Only a licensed vet should tranquilize a pet. We do not recommend that you get your pet tranquilized as they fight it and it only makes things worse.
We DO, however, recommend that you talk to your vet about homeopathic stress-reducing products if you feel it would help.
How can I help keep my dog from stressing?
Speak to your dog in a calm, relaxed, quiet way. Do not speak to it in a manner that creates stress such as a high-pitched tone, or in a manner that your dog perceives as something bad is about to happen.
Do you use muzzles?
Alternative measures will be taken before this option is used. Muzzling will be used only if absolutely necessary. Muzzling will not harm your pet, and protects both the pet and the groomer. Please be assured that it will only remain on for as minimal a time as necessary.
How long will the grooming session take?
When you arrange an appointment with us, your pet is provided with dedicated one-on-one time. Grooming requirements are dependent on breed, temperament, condition of coat and skin, along with products used, as well as services provided. Many appointments will be completed in about 2 hours (give or take).
Have a question? Perhaps I can help! ~~ Daisy
No grooming of any kind will be done in your home. If your pet needs to see the groomer, you're in luck! I will bring them back to The Barking Basement for their grooming session, and then bring them home. **This must be scheduled at the same time as the pet sitting agreement is arranged.***
Yes, most visits will include things such as bringing in the mail & newspaper, and watering your plants unless given direction otherwise.
Clean your house, tidy up the kitchen, or any housekeeping of any kind. This does not include issues such as accidents from pets. Should your pet have an accident in the home, while you are away and they are in our care, we will make every attempt to clean it as best as possible. This does NOT include, however, shampooing of rugs or things of that nature. We will make every attempt to clean the initial mess as best as we can. Should further professional help be necessary, that will be the responsibility of the home/pet owner.
The Barking Basement has a "no shared visits" policy. That means I will not be held liable nor responsible for any damage that may occur to your pets or home while you are away as others have access to the home and pets.
The Barking Basement has a "not every other day visits for cats" policy. Cat care is a required daily visit. Anything can happen when pets are left alone - even cats.
As a pet care professional, we cannot, in good conscience, ignore additional pets in the household needing care.
Closed Sunday.
Open: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
